Job Posting!
The Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club requires an
"Operations Manager" at Bull Mountain. The responsibilities that the Executive envisions
for this person to have are above and beyond what can be expected in a
volunteer role. As a result, the club is
advertising for a seasonal, part-time, paid position, to primarily organize grooming
at Bull Mountain. We would like this person to organize our volunteer groomers
as well as be a groomer himself or herself.
We anticipate that this person will monitor the trails on a day to day
basis and make decisions on which trails require grooming. He or she would then organize the volunteer
pool to get the job done as well as help groom a portion of the trail system.
This position will report to the Executive.
Additional duties we feel could be included in this position
are:
General facility maintenance and monitoring; coordination
of road and parking lot clearing; fuel storage; random ski pass checking;
ensure there is heat in the clubhouse (start fire); removal of dead fall or
sweeping of trees along trails; monitor and coordinate equipment maintenance.
Attributes that this person should possess are:
Computer literacy (and access to a computer), strong
communication skills, mechanical aptitude, willingness to work evenings and
weekends, ability to operate a snowmobile and chainsaw, enthusiasm for Bull
Mountain and for improving our facility. This person doesn’t HAVE to be a cross
country skier.
We anticipate needing the positon filled from
mid-November 2016 to approximately mid-March 2017. Wages and hours of work are
negotiable.
We welcome any interested persons to contact Scott Gordon
at 250-392-5177, or at bsmb@telus.net by
NOVEMBER 4, 2016. Also, please pass
this info on to anyone who you feel may be the perfect candidate for this job!

Work Bee(s) October 30th
Thanks to everyone
who came out to help at yesterday’s work bee.
It was a beautiful day up there! Also,
thanks to those who came to our first one on October 2nd……
Unfortunately, we
are needing another day- SUNDAY, OCTOBER 30TH 10am-2PM, to finish some projects up for this year.
Specifically we are
needing more trail widening and brushing on
- Gunanoot
- Arrow Head
- Brushing and tree removal on Canyon View.
So, we need volunteers to run chain saw and volunteers to
remove the fallen trees and brush from the trails. This allows us to
complete the projects quicker. We would like: 2- sawyers and 2 swampers per
project –
Quads, if you have one would be great.
Please call Sean at 250-398-9588 if you are available to
help.

A couple of things......
GROOMERS
We are looking for volunteer groomers to help with the
grooming this year. Snowmobile
experience is not a necessity, but would be an asset. Training will be provided. Contact Sean Seabourne at 250-398-9588 if you
can help us out.
REGISTRATION
I have emailed out registration forms to previous members. Adult fees have gone up $10
to $110, but you can avoid the increase by registering on or before our Open
House on November 19th! You
can mail in your completed forms or bring them in to the Open House. Also, online registration is available
through Zone 4 – go to http://www.zone4.ca/
and search for the Williams Lake Cross Country Ski Club.
EARLY REGISTRATION
PRIZES
Cross Country BC has introduced a membership drive with
amazing prizes for the club with the highest % of registered members by
midnight on December 1st.
(Based on last year’s registration totals.) Should we be a winning club,
we will pass the prizes directly on to our members! The link below outlines the contest.
Register early so we have a chance to win!!
OCTOBER 23 – WORK
BEE AT BULL MOUNTAIN 10am-2pm
- Where: Meet in
the parking lot.
- Be sure to have work gloves and appropriate footwear. The trails can be muddy.
- Specialty/Power
Equipment: If you own an ATV, we would appreciate
it if you brought it; the trails are soft so we ask that people walk or
ride an ATV. Vehicles (other than ATV’s) will not be allowed on the
trails. We need people with chain-saws and brush saws for removing brush
growing up on the trails. A weed whacker is probably too light. Please
note if you are bringing a chain-saw or any power equipment our safety
plan obliges volunteers to wear personal protective gear (a hard hat with
ear and eye protection, gloves and work boots) and faller’s pants if you
are running a chain-saw.
JACKRABBITS
A reminder that online registration is NOT
available for Jackrabbits and that club membership is included in the
Jackrabbit fees. There will be an
information table at the Open House, and Rob will be emailing out registration
forms to all of last year’s participants.
